DJing...an art? Review of the movie
Scratch… Okay…so first of all, let's make
one thing clear. This is an unbiased opinion. That's right. I am not a
DJ. Ok. Let's get down the business. I watched this film called
Scratch. It was about the history of DJing and that scratching thing
that they do with the records. Now, stop and think for a minute. When
the term DJ comes to mind, most think of the guy at the night club,
that sets the stage for your ass shaking festivities. This film though
has just about changed my mind about that. It was actually pretty
interesting. The film takes a different approach and introduces djing
as an entire culture not a hobby. A culture, started by
Grandwizard Theodore. He was the man who started all one day by chance.
An entire culture in the 80s emerged because this man was trying stop a
record so he could hear some one calling him from another room and
liked the sound of it. Not the greatest way to discover something but
history has taught us that this is just how things can be. I mean,
someone had the idea for pet rocks, so why not!
