Well here is Tuesday’s video post. Why on a Wednesday you may ask? See “what had happened was”… a certain person by the name Mr. Suspect got a hold of my computer.  He went on a site he knew good and well he shouldn’t be going to which pretty much killed my pc. He definitely earned the “Moron of the week” in my book for that little fiasco.   Since then for the the last 3 or 4 days have had to reformat my computer and install everything back to the way I had, it so I’m a little behind on the posts. Well I have some catching up to do then I guess.

So for the theme of today’s video posts I chose to post DJ/turtablist videos. Why you may ask well last Monday I decided to play hooky from work and took the day off.  While on the way to the comic shop to pick up my new books for the week, (I’m a big marvel zombie by the way) i stopped by a pawn shop. In case you didn’t know but here in Florida there are 3 establishments you will find in excess of in the hood. They are chicken places, liquor stores and pawn shops! Pawn shops are the best kept secret for buying DVDs, you can get them dirt cheap and if you get in good with the peeps there you can get good deals.  Like one time me and my boy copped a huge grip of blue ray movies for 4 bucks a piece!

So anyway’s while looking through the shelf which was filled with a lot of garbage, I found a shining gem! A movie called “Scratch“.  We had written a review on this movie a few years back and posted it on this site and I remember totally enjoying this movie a lot. I definitely had to pick this bad boy up and especially with the 2 dollar asking price, I was sold! Well after watching tropic thunder last night (I was highly disappointed with that movie by the way) I went ahead and popped the movie in to watch again, its been a few years since I watched it.  When the end credits finally rolled on the film I came to a sad realization how under appreciated DJ’s are!  Especially in this day and age where the hip hop game is all about flossing what you got and how many “bricks” you supposedly pushed, the DJ has been pushed completely out of the equation.

This whole music that we enjoy now was started by DJ’s, they helped bring it to the fore front. But now they have been regulated to minor duties such as playing strictly in clubs and on on the radio or doing mixtapes and not have a close attachment to the music making process like they used to.  Also its sad half of these DJ’s running around now cant even scratch or mix 2 damn records (Kay Slay & Whoo Kid I’m lookin at u!).True DJ’n is definitely becoming a lost art form, But the silver lining is there are still DJ’s out there still pushing one of the founding pillars of hip hop,and have evolved themselves as turntablists DJ’s such as QBERT, Craze, Mixmaster Mike among others.  They definitely have mastered their crafts as artists and pushed the envelopes on what can be done with 2 turntables and a mixer, My only wish is if they can somehow be made more relevant with the music being made today and they can reintegrate once again like hip hop music was back in the day… *sigh* a man can only dream……
